There are lots of pressures and stresses that come with modern living. From our work and family responsibilities to the ‘always connected’ digital world, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and it can become difficult to stay in the present. But it’s important to take time to reconnect with your mind and body, and create a moment of calm amongst the busyness.
The practice of meditation is thought to help reduce stress and anxiety, and improve memory and attention span. In turn, these benefits can help to build resilience and increase productivity. But there are also physical benefits too; meditation can have a positive effect on conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease and irritable bowel syndrome, as well as chronic skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema.
Stress & The Skin
Stress can act as a trigger for skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema. This is because cortisol, known as the body’s stress hormone, can suppress the immune system and cause an inflammatory response in the skin. However, practices that help to reduce stress levels, such as meditation, can help to prevent this immune system response and therefore help with managing the symptoms - especially when coupled with more traditional medical treatments.
We’ve teamed up with qualified yoga and meditation teacher, Mick Timpson, to provide a free guided meditation for you to access whenever you feel you could benefit from redirecting your thoughts and finding a moment of inner calm. You can find the video below:
